Unit Treasurer Procedures and Responsibilities
A. Keep an up-to-date record of receipts and disbursements.
B. Give financial reports to the Board and the General Membership regularly.
C. Use a reporting form showing beginning balance, receipts, disbursements and final balance for the period.
D. Make disbursements as approved by the Board
E. Collect all LWREA (Leon-Wakulla Retired Educators’ Association) dues ($10), and deposit at Envision Credit Union along with other moneys received.
F. Assist and advise in preparing the annual budget.
G.
Have an annual audit of financial records. The Audit should include:
  1. examination of all reports of the treasurer.
  2. a check that all moneys received are recorded and deposited
  3. a check that expenditures are authorized.
  4. a check that there are receipts for all disbursements
  5. reconciliation of all bank statements
  6. examination of bonds, notes, etc. (if any)
  7. certification of annual report

H.  The Auditing committee will meet the first board meeting of September and will include members of the Finance Committee.
I. Collect all FREA (Florida Retired Educators’ Association) dues ($30) and FREF (Florida Retired Educators’ Foundation) contributions and forward them to the FREA State Office, 100 1st Avenue South, Suite 460, St. Petersburg, FL 33701-4333.
J. Mail the dues to the FREA office, using the forms provided and member bar-coded labels. Send in the dues AS YOU RECEIVE them. You are responsible for sending in the state membership dues, separating them from the local dues. Put last name first, then first name and initial, as listed on retirement check.  Include apartment number or lot number in address if there is one and full zip code. If they are members, use their bar-coded label or send name as shown on the member status report.
K.
Notify the FREA office immediately when a change of address occurs. Use the correct form provided and member bar-coded label and indicate the new address. List OLD address as well as NEW address when sending in the change.
L. FREA membership cards are printed and issued at the time dues are posted in the FREA office. They are sent directly to the individual. FREA Life membership cards are also issued from the FREA office.
M.
Mail in the deceased member’s name AS IT OCCURS so the name may be deleted from the computer. Use the correct form provided and member bar-coded label so FREA has the correct person deleted.
